Environment
Here are some events that have taken place around
the world recently. Which of these have you heard
about?
A high proportion of 16- to 21-year-olds have
heard about the student protests in London (89%), the war in
Afghanistan (88%) and the protests in the Middle East/North Africa
(84%). Around three quarters had heard about the earthquake in New
Zealand (76%), the floods in Australia (73%) and the oil leak in
the Gulf of Mexico (70%). Fewer had heard about the bombing at
Moscow airport (40%) and less than a third had heard of the floods
in the Philippines (31%) or in South America (29%).

Global warming
Nearly three quarters (70%) of 16- to 21-year-olds agree that
global warming is a very serious problem, with only 15%
disagreeing. Just over half (56%) are angry that adults have
damaged the environment and their generation will have to deal with
it while a third (31%) disagree with this statement. A fifth (22%)
agree that there is nothing that they can do that will have any
effect on global warming but the majority (67%) believe that they
can affect this issue.
