Marriage

Two fifths of young women this age agree that marriage is the best form of relationship, although a third (33%) disagree and a quarter (25%) are undecided. A majority of young women (59%) disagree with the statement 'you are better off getting married than living together' and a similar proportion (57%) disagree that married couples make better parents than unmarried ones. Three in five young women this age think that there should be more support for families that split up.

If you have children in the future, which would you prefer to do when they are young: stay at home or go back to work?

The majority (53%) of young women in this age range would like to work part-time when they have children, and a fifth (19%) would like to stay at home. Only 12% say that they would like to work full-time and 6% do not plan to have children.

Two thirds of young women in this age range might consider delaying or not having children in order to follow their perfect career: 31% said that they would and 34% said that they might. A quarter (24%) rejected this suggestion and 6% did not know. One in twenty (5%) already have children.
