Global warming

Almost two thirds (62%) of girls aged 7 to 11 agree that ‘global warming is a very serious problem’ and only 12% disagree. Within this age range girls aged 9 to 10 are far more likely to agree with the statement (70%) than 7- to 8-year-olds (55%). A quarter (26%) answered ‘don’t know’, comprising a third (32%) of 7- to 8-year-olds and a fifth (20%) of
9- to 10-year-olds.

Are you fed up with hearing about climate change?

When asked if they were fed up with hearing about climate change, nearly half (47%) of girls this age said that they were not, one in five (22%) said that they were and one in three (31%) were undecided.

Which global events are you worried about?

When asked which recent events from around the world worried them, the most popular response from this age group was the war in Afghanistan which was chosen by around a third (36%) followed by the earthquake in New Zealand chosen by a quarter (24%). Just under one in five (17%) said that floods and cyclone in Australia and a similar proportion (16%) said the protests in the Middle East. The least popular option was the floods in the Philippines which was chosen by only 7% of girls.
