Which recent world events are you worried
about?
Across the ages girls are most likely to say that they are
worried about the war in Afghanistan, with half (49%) selecting
this option. This was followed by the student protests in London
(32%), the protests in the Middle East/North Africa (31%) and the
earthquake in New Zealand (28%). Around a quarter (24%) were
worried about the floods and cyclone in Australia. Only one in ten
were worried about the floods in the Philippines (10%) or the
floods in South America (12%).

Is global warming a serious
problem?
Overall, more than two-thirds of girls (67%)
believe that global warming is a very serious problem, only 13%
disagree and one fifth (20%) do not know. Girls from high
performing schools are much more likely to think that global
warming is a problem (70% compared to 56% from lower performing
schools).
