Why are girls closest to their mums?

In our survey last year, girls said that they felt closest to their mums so this year we asked about the reasons behind this. The most popular response, mentioned by a third of girls (32%), was that they had more in common with their mum and they had been through similar experiences. Slightly fewer (27%) said that it was because they were both female, one in five girls (21%) said that they were closer to their mum because they found her easier to talk to and 8% said that their dad did not listen in the same way. One in ten (11%) said that they were closer to their mum because they spent more time with her.
