Which of these women do you think is the best role model for
girls your age?
Across the ages the most popular role model
was Cheryl Cole, chosen by 41% of girls, followed by Emma Watson
(27%), Jessica Ennis (24%) and Beth Tweddle (21%). Other popular
choices were Fearne Cotton (19%), Kate Middleton (19%), Karen Brady
(18%) and Lady Gaga (17%). Girls from lower performing schools were
more likely to cite Cheryl Cole as a role model than those from
higher performing schools (55% vs. 45%), whereas Emma Watson was
more popular amongst girls from higher performing schools (24%
chose her compared to 14% of girls at lower performing
schools).
Which of these are true about where you
live?
Almost two thirds of girls feel safe in their
local area (60%), just over half (53%) know their neighbours by
name and just under half (47%) think this country is a good place
to live and grow up. Around a third (36%) have done something to
help a neighbour in the past year and 29% feel part of their local
community. Girls living in rural areas are more likely to feel safe
in their local area (68% vs. 57% in urban or suburban areas) and to
feel that they are part of their local community (33% vs. 27%) but
slightly less likely to know their neighbours by name (49% vs.
54%).
